I first met Rachelle, Daniel, and their 2 year old daughter at their maternity session a couple of months ago. We had originally scheduled their session for a few weeks before. However, on the day of their original session date, Hurricane Francine came blasting through the area. They handled rescheduling gracefully, and I knew they were going to be some wonderful, easy-going clients.
I typically encourage newborn sessions to take place within the first 2 weeks of baby’s life. This helps to combat cluster feedings, a less cooperative/very awake baby, and the dreaded baby acne. It was important to Rachelle, however, to incorporate her mother who was going to be traveling in from Canada a couple of weeks later. So, when they invited me to document their newest daughter’s birth in an at-home newborn session in their Little Rock home, we adjusted.
That is one of the reasons I love what I do. I get to work with clients to bring their vision to life, brainstorming on how we approach the session, and communicating with them to understand their priorities for their sessions.
Needless to say, I’m thrilled that we waited for her mother to arrive. Capturing 3 generations (of females to boot!) is not something I get to do everyday! I also think it was beautiful to document “the village” it takes to raise a child and the important role grandparents can play in a grandchild’s life.
